I introduced my girls to an 80’s classic, a Roller Disco. This summer at the Trafford Centre, they have a fabulous pop up Roller Disco so you can get those skates on and have a boogie.

Right in the middle of all the food outlets in The Orient, there is a massive glitter disco ball hanging from the ceiling. Below is a kaleidoscope of colours with a neon floor and dj booth.

We arrived for our session to be met by the Star Wash crew. They were so full of enthusiasm and energy that the girls got excited and full of beans straight away.

We got our wrist bands on for our slot and raided the dressing up box to pose for some hilarious pictures. There was a camera set up to take photos every 30 seconds. These could then be seen on a screen and could be purchased for £6 each.

The girls loved the idea of getting some disco glitter so we went over to that stall. Stick on gems, colourful hair extensions, and face glitter were available. The girls both got some glitter for £3.50 each.

Next, we collected our roller skates, and the girls got some extra skating protection of a helmet and pads. They must have thought I would be a good skater as I just got given skates! BTW, they were right. I hadn’t lost the technique even though I haven’t skated for about 25 years!!!

We were super excited when it was our time to hit the dance floor. Funky tunes were blasting out from the Dj as we zoomed around the rink. The Star Wash crew shouted out encouragement to everyone as they went round, remembering the names of the children, which was a nice touch. It definitely gave my youngest encouragement to let go of the sides.

This isn’t just roller skating but a whole immersive experience. It was such a different sort of activity than the norm. Both the adults & children were having a laugh and I’d even class it as getting some exercise.

The Star Wash Roller Disco is open all summer, from 19th July – 27th August.

The experience is open daily Mon – Sat 11am – 8pm, Sun 12pm – 6pm, with sessions lasting 55 minutes.
