Christchurch Meadows in Caversham is a large open green space that hosts many events and is home to a playground and a paddling pool which my kids love.
The play park at Christchurch Meadows has several spaced out areas but they’re all within fenced areas with multiple gates to protect you and your little ones from both the rivers and the cycle paths.
The largest area is the sandy park area with the new wooden pirate ship area which is a popular feature in many parks locally, there is also a zip wire and another climbing frame with two other slides in the same area.
Another playground goes from the ground up a ramp for easy access up to a platform with another climbing route up too. Several swings are around the playgrounds including a full seat swing and basket swing. Near to the paddling pool area is a long rope swing.
The final area is aimed at toddler I would say, with a slide, steps and climbing routes as well as a musical game.
All of this with a great view of the bridges and Thames river where there are always plenty of ducks, swans and geese wanting to be fed. Also some lovely places to walk to including cafes and shops in Caversham or a walk to the weir perhaps.
Car parking is just the other side of Reading bridge in hills meadow. Prices start from £3.10 for couple of hours (June 2023).
The amazing Coffee Cube of Caversham is often set up next the pool most days with fairtrade coffee, drinks and snacks.
Christchurch Meadow Paddling Pool
The main attraction at Christchurch playground for my kids is the paddling pool which requires no booking to allow all the littles one a chance to cool down and enjoy the water.
The Christchurch Meadows paddling pool is much larger than other ones out and about and a little deeper too. However the ends are a little shallower so best for younger kids there.
Lots here for everyone’s taste and hopefully everyone enjoys their visit, remember to keep it tidy and leave only footprints.
