Who doesn’t love a burger? We know we do, especially when it comes with a side of US charm! We recently treated ourselves to a family meal at Bluegrass BBQ Smokehouse in Windsor, right opposite the castle! You can also find Bluegrass restaurants in Reading and High Wycombe.
On arrival we found the staff at Bluegrass welcoming and accommodating of us as a family. They happily brought us a high chair when requested and there were also baby change facilities in the restaurant.
The menu had all the American Smokehouse classics you might expect like pulled pork, BBQ chicken and of course a whole range of mouthwatering burgers to try. There is also a full children’s menu which had a nice range of dishes like popcorn chicken, mac n’ cheese and a kids burger option. We also loved the unique drinks menu which has lots of American sodas like Root Beer and Black Cherry Soda to try.
My eldest went for a pancake short stack topped with bacon, sausage and maple syrup while the little one had mac n’ cheese which came with a side of chips. I went for Bourbon BBQ Burger while my husband had the Boston Burger loaded with pulled pork. The kid’s meals were a good size for our kids (aged 7 and 2) though I can see children older than about 9-10 years needing a larger portion and so upgrading to the adult menu.
The food we ordered was delicious and we finished off our meal with a round of deserts including an enormous Rocky Road Sundae for my eldest! I tried the Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie and our youngest enjoyed the free ice cream scoop that comes with the children’s meal. The children also received a free drink with their meal which is always a welcome addition to a children’s menu.
Overall, we loved our visit to Bluegrass. It was a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere in which to have a family meal. We loved the country music playing throughout and the food was excellent. There is also a fantastic view of Windsor Castle to enjoy throughout your meal making it an extra special place to enjoy eating out family.
