If you’re after a way to get your kids into the great outdoors this summer, Astbury Watersports Centre close to Congleton is the perfect place.
We went along to Astbury Watersports Family Fun Day. It was perfect for sampling a range of outdoor activities to get a taster of what they have to offer on both water and land. They had canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and if getting in the water isn’t what you fancy they also has axe throwing, orienteering and fire starting!
We arrived at the start if the session and got ready to head out on to the water. My 8 year old wore her wetsuit, water shoes & the centre provided a life vest.
Down on the waterfront there were different queues to join depending on which watersport you would like. We had a go at both Paddleboarding and in a 2 person Canoe.
It was quite windy out on the water which meant it was hard work rowing against the wind. The staff did very well keeping an eye out on everyone’s safety and were using two power boats creating waves to keep you away from the side of the lake. The wind meant less vessels could be out on the lake so there was more of a wait time to have a go.
We loved our go on the paddleboard, me & my daughter went on one together, we both had a go at standing up and paddling but mainly kept on our knees. My daughter was desperate to jump off into the water but settled for hanging her legs over the edge instead.
The canoe was also great fun. We took a while to get to grips with steering but ended up working well as a team & it was a great option if you don’t want to risk getting wet.
The orienteering looked so much fun. You got a map & headed off around the lake & into the woodland to find markers and along the way there was an area to have a go at shelter building & fire lighting.
Back at the centre, if you were feeling brave & strong you could also have a go at Axe Throwing and Archery.
There was food being served back on the shore so we got a burger each. These are only £2 each (£1.50 if pre ordered at booking) which was a great addition to the morning.
I can’t wait to go back again with both girls to book some of their “have a go” session over the summer holidays where you get an hour on a vessel of choice.
